National research programmes
Forte is responsible for five national research programmes initiated by the Swedish government. The aim of these ten-year programmes is to strengthen knowledge in strategically important areas of society, help bridge critical knowledge gaps and increase the societal impact of research findings.

Forte’s National Research Programmes
Forte is responsible for five national research programmes:
- Programme on working life research
- Programme on applied welfare research
- Research programme on mental health
- Programme for a sustainable social services sector
- Programme on children and young people's living conditions and health development
Purpose and contribution
The national research programmes act as platforms for ongoing research within their respective fields. They promote synergies between stakeholders and create the conditions necessary for interdisciplinary collaboration. The programmes are also designed to strengthen connections to international research initiatives, initiate research based on identified and prioritised knowledge gaps and increase the societal relevance and impact of research findings.
