Social research on alcohol and narcotics
The use of alcohol and drugs has consequences that affect individuals, families and society as a whole. Knowledge is needed about how the use, the impact on health and the results of various interventions look. Doping, tobacco and gambling are also included in Forte's coordination of the area.
Forte's coordination covers the entire addiction area (ANDTS)
To encompass the entire area of addiction research, Forte has since 2019 to broaden its mission within alcohol and drugs to also include research on doping, tobacco and gambling, in Sweden often abbreviated as ANDTS.
What research is conducted?
Examples of research within the area include studies on use and abuse in the population, the impact of political decisions and reforms, and the effects of preventive measures. Research in the area is conducted in close collaboration with relevant actors in society.
What does Forte do in this area?
The mission involves creating an overview of the research, identifying knowledge gaps, increasing collaboration between different actors and ensuring that research results benefit society.
Preventing and managing the use and harms of ANDTS is important for a good and equitable public health. Many actors work at different levels of society to reduce ill health and harms caused by ANDTS, and collaboration between them is often required. Forte contributes by funding and making research of high quality and societal relevance available. Read more about Forte's mission at the link below.
