Agenda 2030

Agenda 2030 is a shared framework for UN member states. Research and innovation play an important role in our ability to transition to a sustainable society. Forte's research areas are central to socially sustainable development.

Agenda 2030 is a framework for sustainable development adopted by the UN member states in 2015. Through a concerted effort around 17 global goals, the countries aim to eliminate poverty and hunger, realize human rights for all, achieve gender equality, and create lasting protection for our planet and natural resources by 2030.**

The Swedish Parliament has adopted an overarching goal for the implementation of Agenda 2030:

Sweden shall implement Agenda 2030 for economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable development through coherent policies both nationally and internationally. The implementation should reflect the agenda's principle that no one is left behind.

How Forte contributes to Agenda 2030

Forte contributes to the implementation of Agenda 2030 by funding research that is relevant to the agenda, as well as national goals and strategies concerning, among other things, public health, sustainable working life, and gender equality. We communicate research results and stimulate dialogue between researchers and relevant knowledge users in policy and practice.

Forte's ambition is for the agenda to be an integrated part of our activities and to be used as a tool in our regular processes, as well as in our national and international collaborations. We continuously work to plan, implement, and follow up on our efforts with Agenda 2030 in mind. This applies, for example, to our research programmes, various calls for proposals, analyses, and knowledge mapping.

Ensuring that research is put to good use

Another part of our contribution to the agenda is increasing the impact of funded research. In 2022, we conducted a pilot call for impact of research, where funded programmes and projects from a selection of previous calls could apply for funding for activities that would help make research results more applicable. The projects were expected to address societal challenges within Forte's key areas and contribute to the Swedish implementation of Agenda 2030.

Collaborating to strengthen the contribution to Agenda 2030

We also collaborate with other agencies and actors, including GD-forum, Mötesplats Social Hållbarhet, and the Council for Governance with Knowledge (RSK), to strengthen both our own and Sweden's collective contribution to the agenda's implementation. To report on our contribution to the agenda and relevant national goals within our areas, we are developing indicators and documentation of our efforts.

We report on our work with Agenda 2030 in our annual report.
