Our mission

Forte is tasked to promote and fund research in the areas of health, working life and welfare, and carry out work to ensure that research is of benefit to society. Our work is based on our vision of tomorrow's more equal and socially sustainable society.

Assignments from the Swedish Government

Our operations are guided by governmental directives and an annual letter of appropriation. In addition to these, we may be assigned additional government assignments. Our work is also based on national goals and political frameworks in health, working life and welfare.

Research funding

Forte is tasked with funding both basic and needs-driven research that can help meet challenges and needs in society. This includes individual project grants to investments to build world-class research environments. We are also tasked to assess the quality, utilisation and societal relevance of the research Forte funds. In addition, we work actively to stimulate research collaborations across borders, both within the EU and in the rest of the world.

Analysis and advice

We are also tasked with identifying research needs and initiating research that meets society's knowledge needs. Through evaluations, knowledge reviews and a continuous dialogue with researchers and other actors in society, we map the state of knowledge in our fields. This creates the conditions for our research to have an impact in society. Our analyses also contribute to our mission as an advisory body to the government on research issues.

Communication

Forte is also tasked with communicating research and research findings. We organise webinars and conferences where researchers, policymakers, and other stakeholders come together to exchange knowledge. We promote and initiate knowledge dissemination, and dialogue around the research we fund. Through this work, we contribute to ensuring that research results are spread and utilised for the benefit of society.
