Are you eligible to apply for funding?

Financing from Forte is applied for in open competition. Most of Forte’s grant types are aimed at individuals. A basic requirement is that the main applicant must have an awarded doctoral degree.

You must hold an awarded doctoral degree to be eligible to apply

Eligibility varies between the different types of grants and between different calls for proposals. A basic requirement, however, is that you must hold an awarded doctoral degree to be eligible to apply. Additional requirements may sometimes apply. For example, there may be limitations regarding career age or conditions regarding your activity level in the project.

Information about the eligibility criteria for a specific call can be found on the call’s web page here at Forte.se. If the application does not meet the requirements, it will be rejected or dismissed.

You must be employed by an organisation that is approved by Forte as an administrating organisation

The administrating organisation is the entity that receives the funds granted to approved applications. It is not a requirement that you are employed by the administrating organisation at the time of application, but if the application is granted funding, you must be employed there when the project starts. The employment must at least correspond to the amount of time you allocate to the project (activity level).

All Swedish universities and higher education institutions meet our criteria and are approved as administrating organisations. This also applies to most research institutes and regions.

A condition for being granted funds from Forte is that the administrating organisation or project leader has not already or will be receiving funding for the same costs and purposes.

Career age and deductible time

Some of Forte’s grants carry special requirements regarding career age. If you have been prevented from conducting research for extended periods it is possible to apply for an exemption from the career age requirement. You do this by invoking so-called deductible time. If you have invoked deductible time, Forte may request certificates or documentation to confirm the grounds for the specified absence.

Grant types aimed for organisations

Most of Forte’s grant types are aimed at individuals. However, there are special grants that can only be applied for by organisations. One example of such a grant is the research centre grants. In Prisma, calls for applications from organisations are only visible to persons who are logged in via an organisation account.
