Assessment and final decision

Once you have submitted your application to Forte, it will go through several stages of review. If the application meets the conditions of the call, it will be forwarded to Forte’s review panels for assessment. You will receive an email when the decision is available in Prisma.

1. Verification of your application

Forte checks if your application fulfils the conditions laid down in the call for proposals. For example, we check whether your application falls within the scope of the call and that the applicant is eligible. If the application does not fulfil the conditions, it will be refused or rejected.

2. Review panels assess your application

All applications that fulfil the conditions in the call for proposals are given to Forte’s review panels for assessment. The review panels are made up of researchers and community representatives within Forte’s areas of health, working life, and welfare.

In the annual calls for project grants and starting grants, there are a number of review panels with different focus areas. The members of these panels are appointed annually. For other calls, there are specially appointed review panels. You can find information about the members of the review panel on the call’s page here on forte.se.

Assessment criteria

To be eligible for funding from Forte, the research must meet the requirements, of high scientific quality, societal relevance and feasibility. Applications are assessed based on the criteria specific to the call, as outlined on the call’s webpage.

To all open calls

The reviewers assess the applications and provide a joint recommendation

The reviewers read and assess all applications individually, and then meet up to hold a joint discussion. At this meeting, the review panel makes a joint recommendation on which projects should be granted or rejected.

If several applications are judged equivalent

In cases where two or more applications are judged to be equivalent in the overall assessment, the review panel may give priority to applications from applicants of the under-represented gender. By under-represented gender, Forte refers to the gender that has a lower success rate in relation to the number of applicants. In the second instance, the review panel may give priority to applications that contribute to a greater variety of research questions and themes among the funded projects.

3. Final decision by Forte’s board

Forte’s board decides which applications to grant funding and which to reject, based on the recommendations of the review panels. In some cases, the board can delegate decisions to our Director General. Forte’s grant decisions cannot be appealed.

4. You will receive an email when the decision is available in Prisma

Once the decision has been made, you will receive an email notifying you that the decision is available in your Prisma account. A decision rationale will also be provided. Additionally, a list of all approved projects in the call will be published on the call’s page here on forte.se.

5. Acceptance of terms if funding is granted

Before the grant payment plan is activated, the project leader must sign the approval of terms in Prisma. If you are the project leader for an application, you will receive an e-mail message when the ”Approval of terms” is published.

The administrating organisation must also sign the approval of terms for a grant. If you are a signing officer, you will receive an e-mail when there is a task to perform.
