About the publication
Young LGBTQ people have a higher risk of mental illness and stress-related symptoms compared to heterosexuals. There is a growing body of resarch showing that the common cause lies in the specific exposure to different stress factors e.g. discrimination, violence, stress about not being able to be open about one’s sexual identity or gender identity, and expectations of rejection or social isolation.
The report summarises international research on the health and lives of LGBTQ people in recent years and knowledge of the determinants of health in this group. Besides providing a picture of the current status of research, an important purpose of the report is also to identify knowledge gaps and areas in which more information and initiatives are necessary.
