The Swedish Government has decided to extend Jonas Björck’s appointment as Director General of Forte for another three years, until 30 April 2029. He has led the agency since April 2020 and sees both opportunities and challenges in the years ahead.

– Forte has successfully proposed new research initiatives and received strong recognition in the Government’s latest research policy bill. This shows that we are working in the direction the Government wants and that we contribute to research that can address key societal challenges within our areas, he says.

In recent years, Forte has also strengthened its role in both Nordic and European research funding collaboration. Jonas Björck highlights this as an important development for the agency, along with its work on impact and open science.

– We are progressive and active, and our communication receives strong traction. We work actively to create arenas that support the impact of the research we fund.
