Five projects granted funding for research about the elderly in Nordic and Baltic countries

The aim of the call is to support research that will contribute with knowledge to help prepare and equip health and care systems in the Nordic and Baltic countries to meet the challenges of an ageing population. A total of 74 applications were submitted, of which five have now been awarded funding.

“Forte is commissioned by the Swedish government to coordinate national research in the field of ageing. From our perspective, this call is a step in the right direction to address the societal challenges we face and to increase knowledge about ageing – across the Nordic and Baltic regions,” says Ulrika Thomsson Myrvang, Senior Research Officer at Forte.

“The funded projects address issues such as substance abuse among older people, formal and informal care systems, healthy ageing among Nordic Indigenous populations, prevention of osteoporotic fractures, and how qualitative living environments can contribute to home-based health and care services,” says Sofie Wallerström, Senior Research Officer at Forte.

One of the five funded projects is led from Sweden. Swedish researchers are also involved as partners in the other four projects. Other participating researchers are based in Denmark, Finland, Lithuania, and Norway.
