There is a great need for knowledge on practical methods of intervention for mental illness. Forte now awards SEK 30 million to eight practice-oriented research projects within the area.

Eight research projects are now awarded funding to contribute with important knowledge regarding mental illness. The initiative will contribute to expand the knowledge of both early and preventive intervention as well as coordinated interventions for people with severe psychiatric problems. In total, the funding amounts to SEK 30 million over a three-year period.

The funded research projects will focus on a range of methods for prevention, screening and treatment of different types of mental illness. For example, the research will study interventions that target harmful drinking, hoarding disorder, psychosis, stress-related ill-health and interventions for prevention of mental illness in parents of children with disabilities.

“Mental illness is one of the great public health challenges of today. These research projects cover several areas where new knowledge is urgent, and where the results have potential to lead to real improvements in people’s lives”, says Teresia Weinberg, senior research officer at Forte.

The projects are funded through the call “Practice-oriented research into mental illness 2019”, which was open during the autumn 2019. In total, 65 applications for project grants were received.

“We received many good and important applications. The review panel would gladly have granted more applications if the budget had allowed it”, says Teresia Weinberg.
