About the call
Focus area
The current call is for planning grants that are used to prepare for subsequent research projects or programmes within the national research programme on applied welfare research. This means that it must be client- and practice-oriented research within the social service’s operational areas, based on one or more of the eight priority areas of the national research programme, listed below. The priority areas are presented in more detail in the programme’s strategic agenda.
- Effects of interventions.
- Methods for needs assessment for individuals.
- Early/preventive measures of the social services.
- Implementation and change management.
- Coherent service provision initiatives.
- User participation.
- Digitalisation and welfare technology.
- Non-profit and entrepreneurial providers of social services.
The planning grant can be used to develop and strengthen the collaboration/co-production of the planned research, but it may also be used for other activities. This means that collaboration/co-production does not have to occur within the activities funded by the planning grant. However, it is important that the research that is being prepared with the planning grant is conducted in collaboration/co-production with relevant target groups.
Grant type and funding amounts
The planning grants are intended to support researchers that want to prepare for a future application for a project or programme grant within the applied welfare research programme. The planning grant provides opportunities to establish and develop collaboration/coproduction with relevant partners outside academia. Therefore, the grant may be used to develop an application for a research project or programme together with intended partners. Other examples of the potential use of the planning grant include testing the feasibility of an idea in a pilot study or developing relevant research questions in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. Other kinds of preparatory activities can also be funded by the planning grant, provided that the applicant can demonstrate that the activities are necessary and creates preconditions for the planned research project/programme. Thus, the idea is that the planning grants will enable applications for project or programme grants that otherwise would have been difficult to develop.
Grant limit: SEK 500 000 over eight months, with start 1 January 2023. Please
note that the grant limit is including indirect costs (OH). Applications exceeding the specified grant limit will be rejected.
Eligibility requirements
To apply for a planning grant you must have completed a doctoral degree no later than the date of the call closing.
