Applied welfare research 2021

Forte utlyser projektbidrag inom det nationella programmet för tillämpad välfärdsforskning. Satsningen syftar till att främja långsiktig kunskapsuppbyggnad och utveckling inom socialtjänstens verksamhetsområden samt stärka samverkan mellan forskning och praktik. Totalt avsätts cirka 40 miljoner kronor för åren 2022–2025.

About the call

Focus area

This call welcomes proposals for client and practice-oriented research within the social services sector. The focus of the call is based on eight prioritised areas, presented in the strategic agenda of the programme:

  • The effects of interventions
  • Methods for needs assessment for individuals
  • Early/preventive measures of the social services
  • Implementation and change management
  • Coherent service provision initiatives
  • User participation
  • Digitalisation and welfare technology
  • Non-profit and entrepreneurial providers of social services

Grant type and funding amounts

  • Project grants (2-4 years) Project grants are grants for individual research projects. The research projects should be based on the questions and needs of the profession and those of the users/clients. Consequently, research projects are to be carried out in collaborations with social services, e.g. through regional support and collaboration structures (RSS), local research and development units, managers and personell. Grant amount: 4 million per year for six years.
  • Programme grant (6 years) Programme grants aim to strengthen applied welfare research on a long-term basis and enable the development of research environments within the topics stated above. This effort will enable research groups to address new issues and process them for a longer period. This call welcomes applications for project funding
    for two, three, or four years. Forte has allocated a total of about SEK 54 million over a four-year period for project funding. There is no maximum limit for this type of funding, but the budget must be explained in the application. Forte grants an average of about SEK 1.3 million annually in project funding.
  • International Postdoc (2 years) will give researchers who recently have completed their PhD to proceed their research career. Applicants must have completed their PhD max two years before the deadline of the call. The international postdoc grant is available for both incoming and outgoing researchers.The grant has a fixed amount of SEK 2 300 000 (1 150 000/year). In addition, you may apply for a grant for any accompanying family members of SEK 50 000 per person and year.

Eligibility requirements

To apply for a project grant or a programme grant you must have completed a doctoral degree no later than the date of the call closing.

To apply for a postdoc grant, you must have obtained a doctoral degree between 9 February 2019 and 9 February 2021.
