The area Social policy and social change includes research on the aims of social policy, legislation, authorities and organisations and how they affect the welfare system. Living standards and income distribution are central areas, as well as studies of the significance of childhood conditions for life chances at the population level. The impact of social security systems for individuals’ and social groups’ conditions and development is also included.

The panel evaluates proposals of population based studies and migration as well as studies of how the welfare system, policy and social changes influences various social groups. The area also contains studies of inequalities of health from factors such as gender, socioeconomic status, age and ethnicity.
